Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 28, 2026
We wrote this in plain English because nobody reads legalese. Here's what we collect, why, and who sees it.
1. What we collect
- Your name and email address — so we can send you reports and communicate with you.
- Your mailing address — so we can process opt-outs on your behalf. This is the address where you receive mail.
- Your Informed Delivery email content — the envelope scan images and mail piece descriptions that USPS sends you. This is how we identify your junk mail.
- Payment information — processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number. Stripe handles all of that.
2. Why we collect it
One reason: to identify your junk mail and send opt-outs on your behalf. That's it. We don't collect data to sell ads, build marketing profiles, or do anything other than stop your junk mail.
3. Who we share it with
Only the companies that need it to make the service work:
- Mailers — when you ask us to opt you out, we send your name and address to the mailer with a removal request. That's the whole point.
- Lob.com — prints and mails physical opt-out letters on our behalf. They see your name, address, and the letter content.
- Stripe — processes payments. They see your payment details. We don't.
- Google Gemini — our AI reads your envelope scan images to identify senders and mail type. Google processes the images server-side. See Google's AI data policies for details.
We do not sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else. Period.
4. AI processing
Your envelope scan images are processed by Google Gemini (AI) to extract sender names, addresses, and mail classification. No human at PostalDetox looks at your mail images. The AI processing happens server-side — your images are sent to Google's API, processed, and the results (sender name, mail type, opt-out method) are stored in our database.
5. Data retention
We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days. That includes your mail scan history, opt-out records, and personal information. Payment records may be retained longer as required by law.
6. Your rights
Email mailman@postaldetox.com and we will:
- Send you a copy of all data we have on you.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
- Correct any information that's wrong.
We'll handle your request within 30 days.
7. Cookies
We use session cookies to keep you logged in. That's it. No tracking cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party advertising cookies. We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other tracking tool.
8. Children
PostalDetox is not for children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you're a parent and think your child has given us personal information, email us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make meaningful changes, we'll email you before they take effect. We won't bury updates and hope you don't notice.
