Terms of Service

1. What PostalDetox does

PostalDetox reads your USPS Informed Delivery email previews, identifies which mail is junk and which is important, and helps you opt out of the junk. We do this by emailing mailers, submitting web forms, and mailing physical opt-out letters on your behalf.

2. You must be the actual mail recipient

You must be the person who actually receives mail at the address you give us. You can't sign up other people without their permission. You can't use PostalDetox for addresses where you don't live or receive mail.

3. You authorize us to act on your behalf

When you ask us to opt you out of a mailer, you're authorizing PostalDetox to contact that company on your behalf. That means we may share your name and mailing address with them to request removal from their mailing list. We only share the minimum information needed to process the opt-out.

4. Pricing

Here's what things cost:

  • Free: Daily mail report, email-based opt-outs, DIY instructions.
  • National Do Not Mail registration: $7 one-time. We mail the paperwork and a check to the DMA on your behalf.
  • Full Service: $7/year. Includes everything above plus physical opt-out letters.
  • Opt-out letters: $2 per letter, or 5 for $9.

Prices may change. If they do, we'll let you know before charging you anything new.

5. No guarantees on stopping all junk mail

We're honest about this: no one can stop 100% of your junk mail. There is no federal "Do Not Mail" law. The national opt-out list is voluntary. Some mailers ignore opt-out requests.

Realistically, we can reduce your junk mail by 60-80%. That's a lot less junk, but it's not zero. Mail addressed to "Resident," political mail, and government notices will keep coming no matter what.

6. AI processes your mail scans — not humans

We use AI (Google Gemini) to read your Informed Delivery envelope scans and identify senders. No human at PostalDetox reads your mail images. The AI extracts sender names, addresses, and mail type so we can figure out what's junk and how to stop it.

7. We might get it wrong sometimes

Our AI does its best, but it may occasionally misclassify a piece of mail — flagging something important as junk, or missing a junk mailer. We're not responsible for mail that gets misclassified. If you notice a mistake, let us know and we'll fix it.

8. Things we can't stop

  • Political mail — protected by the First Amendment.
  • "Resident" or "Postal Customer" mail — not addressed to you personally, so there's no opt-out.
  • Government notices — legally required (IRS, court, state agencies).
  • Mail from companies you do business with — you'll need to contact them directly or we can help on a per-mailer basis.

9. Cancellation

You can cancel anytime by emailing mailman@postaldetox.com. If you're on a paid plan, we'll stop billing you. We don't do refunds for services already rendered (like letters we've already mailed), but we're reasonable people — if something went wrong, email us and we'll sort it out.

10. The legal stuff

PostalDetox is provided "as is." We do our best, but we can't guarantee the service will be available 100% of the time or that every opt-out will work. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina. PostalDetox is operated by Shoeboxed, Inc., based in Durham, NC.

11. Changes to these terms

If we make meaningful changes, we'll email you. We won't bury changes in fine print and hope you don't notice.
